mapping tool used by student

Teaser:

One of our masterstudents at C-MD asked if he was allowed to use our mapping toolkit for his thesis research. Watch the results here. I think Niels Quinten used the mapping kit in a very nice and alternative way. It shows us how an open toolkit is usable in various settings.

Origami tea

Teaser:

I want this concept to be realised soon! Before our EFRO project ends :) As origami is part of our mapfolding, I think we should enjoy some origami tea when having team meetings. Russian designer Natalia Ponomareva has developed this lovely origami bird tea bag concept, designed to expand as the tea steeps.

Teaser:

Livestreaming, blogging and twittering are more and more – and also more easily – explored by different kinds of organisations. Today I am attending the Glocal conference in Macedonia, Skopje on social media. And you can join the conference from a distance.

Here we (Niels Hendriks and me) presented a critical reflection on social media and design and how they are used in our (Media & Design Academy, Genk, Belgium) research and educational work in cultural, social and commercial contexts (most of the time the context is mixed).

Report by Liesbeth Huybrechts: gRig seminar on research in new media (Oslo)

Teaser:

In the beginning of this week I joined a whole day of presentations and talking about research in new media, at the Institute of Design AHO, Norway. More specifically it dealt with research into the complex interrelations between the phyical and the digital in new media today. The day was the initiative of the gRig network. gRig (the Guild for Reality Integrators and Generators) is a guild that mixes realities and brings new realities into existence. The Belgian co-founders of this international network are FoAM and Nadine. The members are all organisations and individuals commited to “research and creations of meaningful situations in hybrid reality“.
